New York Eats : Papatzul Mexican Night

Last Thursday, I met up for dinner with three of my fabulous friends from High School Bernice, Krissy and Bea. It's always a crazy laugh trip experience when I'm with this bunch. They never fail to crack me up with their life anecdotes, theories on relationships and love and just plain non-sense gossip. As for the food, Bernice suggested we do Mexican. It wasn't exactly the cuisine I was quite craving for that night but I wanted to give it a shot. I was the early bird and was first to arrive at the cozy little place. I ordered their Totopos con Gaucamole for starters while waiting for the rest to arrive.

Totopos con Guacamole $11.00 - Tortilla Chips with Guacamole

For my entree, I decided just a small appetizer plate since I wasn't really starving. I sampled their Queso con Chorizo $10.00 - Chorizo and Queso Chihuahua Cazuela served with warm tortillas. The chorizo bits were tasty and authentic and it was smothered with a generous and I mean GENEROUS amount of gooey and stringy cheese! The plate of warm tortillas that came with it was a pity though, it tasted like one of those cheap microwavable sucky commercial brand tortillas you buy off your local supermarket rack. Bleeh!

Krissy got the Enchiladas De Pato Al Mole Almendrado $20.00 - Slow roasted duck enchiladas in a rich almond mole. She said that this was really yummy.

Bern's Seafood Soup (I couldn't find it on their online menu so I don't have the exact name and price)

Too bad the only group picture we took was blurry... I really have to learn the right way to use the night setting in my camera!

Great atmosphere, friendly and not 'in-your-face' service and good (though not amazing) Mexican food. I was just really happy to see the girls!
